Blackberry Witbier

So a few weeks ago I said I was working on a way to infuse Sam Adams Blackberry Witbeir into a dish of some kind. Well I conceptualized my dish and I am more than excited to try it out. I was thinking of making a blackberry sauce with the beer and spooning it over sliced pork tenderloin. Maybe a asparagus salad on the side? Shaved almonds? Post a comment if you have any suggestions on that one. I'll need to pick up the groceries for it, but expect to see this dish posted before I leave for spring break next weekend. Peace n love.

Someone I Know Had A Birthday

My friend Elise turns 22 tonight so a bunch of my close friends and I went out to dinner to celebrate. Everyone says birthdays lose their flair after you turn 21, but personally, I believe birthdays lose their touch once you can no longer say, "I'm diss meny"...so basically 11, right? Right. Okay so back to what I am supposed to be talking about--dinner. Tonight we all went to JP Bullfeathers...the girls suggested it. Don't drink and name establishments I guess? I don't get to go out to actual restaurants that often so I figured what the hell, I'll go all out on this one...

Appetizer: "Soup Flight"--a trio of soup du jour samplers.
  • RIGHT: French Onion (okay)
  • LEFT: Some kind of beef & potato stew? (good)
  • BACK: At first I thought it was a corn chowder, but I dunno it tasted like it was cheese based (one of the best soups I've ever had)

House Salad w/ balsamic and a glass of Cabernet

Entree: Angus Ribeye with cabernet demi-glaze (thats why I got the Cab ya see) and rosemary.

I haven't had a good steak in a while so I shelled out for the ribeye. Happy birthday Elise, happy birthday me....its not my birthda...okay you get it.

The soda on the right was da bomb. The green tea is water boarding in a bottle...

Lunch in Japan...but in America

Whats up world? I had lunch on campus today (shocker) and tried this Japanese place tucked into a back corner of the Commons. I've been dragged there before because "I had to try their bubble tea". I'm positive a girl has said those exact words before. The bubble tea is okay, not much my style I guess; could have just been the flavor I tried? Who knows, who cares really. With that being said, I never actually got a chance to eat the food, until this afternoon. I ordered a spicy pork rice bowl to-go, which took what had to have been a full Sienfeld episodes worth of time (sorry Smith). The pork an rice looked a lot different than I expected it to. Not in a bad way (damn that stuff is spicy!), I guess I am just used to typical Chinese style pork and rice.
The most interesting part of the lunch were the two Japanese drinks I bought with my order. One was a Japanese soda where you had to press down on the cap to release some kind of sugar marble into the drink? I don't know...the thing came with directions. But my GOD it was fantastic! I wish I could say the same thing for the Japanese green tea...It was the only drink I had on hand when I ate part of my lunch. I was torn b/c the pork was so spicy, but I'm pretty sure if I had another sip of that green tea I would have blacked out...
I've begun to notice I have been eating Asian food a lot lately for no particular reason. I'm trying to taste new things whenever and where ever possible so that could be the reason. Regardless, do not worry I will post some American cuisine soon; most likely something I've made. About  ____ time I know...Pictures after the jump

Vitamins, Minerals, Medicine Oh My!

My second lunch: the rest of my vitamin water, cough drops (if its not Ludens then your an idiot!), and a dose of CVS cough & cold

Side note: the vending machine was sold out of every vitamin flavor EXCEPT this Revive....coincidence?

Tomato, TomAHto

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of meaningful posts recently; I have been sick the past few days. I'm going grocery shopping tomorrow so I'll pick up some things for a great lunch or dinner.
Today I kept it pretty healthy, had a yogurt with my coffee this morning then a chicken breast flat bread sandwich from Subway for lunch (only ate half). Two random girls sat down with Smith and I for lunch today, thought it would be awkward but we actually had a pretty funny conversation about never being able to save the other half of a Subway sub. For my sub, thought I'd switch it up and try their flat bread, but the most surprising thing was that I asked for tomato? I NEVER put tomatoes on my sandwich and always take them off if they're already on there. I figured I would give em' one last try before I swear them off for good. To clarify, I love tomato things i.e. ketchup, tomato sauce, etc I just usually hate sliced tomatoes on sandwiches (weird texture). With that being said, I didn't mind having them on their this time, and I'll probably get them on in the future. Weird how my perception of sliced tomato changed in about 4 seconds...Also, speaking of tomatoes, it got me thinking: how did throwing tomatoes become a thing for bad performances? Who the hell brings tomatoes to a show anyway??
Just finished the second half and a rice cake w/ a dab of peanut butter & jelly

Panera Bread Bowl

Yesterday I felt like getting Panera for lunch, b/c I thought I would switch it up a little. When I walked in they were advertising their soups in bread bowls and since I was particularly hungry I ordered the black bean soup bread bowl and a side salad.

Now, the bread bowl was good, but the salad was phenomenal. Here is the description word-for-word from their website: "All-natural, antibiotic free chicken, romaine, wonton strips, a blend of fire-roasted edamame, red bell pepper and carrot tossed in a Thai Chili Vinaigrette. Topped with strips of seasoned grilled chicken, Thai cashews, fresh cilantro and a peanut drizzle." Alright the Thai chili vinaigrette and "peanut drizzle" were an exceptional touch, but EDAMAME!?! This is no ordinary salad, from a place that used to thrive on their ordinary salads. Touche Panera, tou-flippin'-che...
